Night Wing : Director Says Role will Be Grueling
There are more DC movies in the works than we can keep track of sometimes. They have greenlit a ton of stuff over the last year or so, and a lot of it is barely in the planning stages. One of those projects is a Nightwing. Director Chris McKay took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the character and his thoughts for the movie:
“The story of Dick Grayson, becoming Robin, then becoming Nightwing played out for us, the audience, in the comics in REAL TIME. It wasn’t a flashback. We experienced it. So all of Robin/Nightwing’s successes and failures we were along for the ride. And people that underestimated Robin or dismissed him perhaps had their opinions changed as we watched him “grow up” right in front of us. His relationships, his conflicts with Batman et al felt real to me because he was the window character with which we experienced Gotham City.”
We don’t know very much about the direction the Batman movie is going in, let alone the direction of the Nightwing movie. It’s still in the very early stages, but when it comes to the actor taking up the mantle, it seems that McKay has an idea that the physicality is going to be intense for whichever actor they end up choosing:
Nightwing is one of the more physically capable heroes in the DC universe, so whomever they cast is going to have to commit to a high level of training. Nightwing is a great character, and McKay agrees — when a fan pointed out that the character possesses the best qualities of Batman and Superman, McKay just said, “Agreed.”“He has to. It has to be full commitment. Every day. It is going to be grueling from a martial arts, gymnastics and stunt perspective. Also emotionally taxing. It’s going to be real.”
