Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicle" In Development
Plans for a Vampire Chronicles TV series have been brewing for a while, and now the project has finally landed a studio.
Variety reports Paramount Television and Anonymous Content have optioned 11 books from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chroniclesseries to develop what will certainly be one sexy, moody vampire TV show. Rice’s son Chris is attached to write and executive produce. Rice and Anonymous Content’s David Kanter and Steve Golin will also be shepherding the project behind the scenes.
Much like the books, the series is expected to follow the ageless vampire Lestat as he trots around the globe. The series has previously shown up on the big screen, most notably with Tom Cruise in the Lestat role in 1994’sInterview With the Vampire, and (to a lesser extend), in 2002’s Queen of the Damned with Stuart Townsend taking up the mantle.
“I’m thrilled beyond words to be working with Paramount TV and Anonymous Content — known for extraordinary cutting edge series such as ‘True Detective,’ ‘Quarry,’ and ‘The Knick,’”Anne Rice said in a statement. “In this unique golden age of television, I couldn’t ask for a finer or more passionate team to help bring my beloved vampire hero, Lestat, alive in a series of the highest quality. This is a dream come true, both for me and for Christopher and for the fans who have been asking to see the Brat Prince in this medium for years.”
No word on which network might eventually pick this one up, but judging by the studios involved, a premium cable network looks to be a likely landing place.
